Hello, well I've started a Torrent of the normal quality OGG and high quality OGG version in the same torrent on demonoid , not sure how many will join, but I'll stop seeding this 1 the moment #55 is on my harddrive, and make a new 1 :)

Select what file/version you want and enjoy on your torrent client and enjoy!! :D

    Page : http://www.demonoid.com/files/details/1251920/1929385/

Torrent and ACTUAL OGG FILES can be downloaded directly from a file hosting site Mediafire (my favourite) ;)

    Torrent:

    OGG:
    http://www.mediafire.com/?a5n2jqmmc8y

    HIgh Quality OGG:
    http://www.mediafire.com/?1pept4os342

    ENJOY!! :D

I put up the MP3 version and I am seeding it. The torrent can be downloaded HERE

Please let me know if this works...*first time I've done this*
    I fixed it.

Also, if torrents aren't your thing, here is a mirror to ease the burden on Bryan and Chris' server.

Rad. Added that to the Show notes which gets pushed out over RSS... To bad no slick (Banshee, Amarok, Rythmbox) support downloading Podcasts over torrent via RSS.

@heavensrevenge: Demonoid requires an invitation or an existing user account to download, and I have no success trying to download your torrent. (5 minutes into torrent download and still 0.00 KB/s....) I don't think it is working, but thanks for trying.

@chris: Meanwhile, I got a blazing 1 Mbps on the OGG highquality direct download. Woohoo!

/me rocks out to intro music...

WOW, to be in the show notes IS AWESOME, glad I could help you guys out in some way, since I've no doubt used a fair share of your bandwidth, thought I could help you save as much as I've used, just like the torrenting philosophy, get and share... then keep sharing :P

Ill definitely try to keep doing this for a while, my memory really sux azz, but hey, to contribute to help you AND Linux gain ground, that really is, 2 birds with one stone :)
  4.
OOP sorry @Matthew another torrent was sucking all my upload bandwidth ;) but really.... it is DHT & Peer Exchange Enabled in KTorrent I believe, and if it isn't working for you, just get the files off of Mediafire, hence is why I added them, to give CHOICE :D So far it isn't doing too bad, 1 hour and already 6 leechers and 3 seeders :P

I hope this helps Bryan and Chris's sever load a bit, just trying to help somehow :)

Guess I'm a little slow this week, I'm also seeding the OGG file

    http://www.mininova.org/tor/794128

I just merged as a seeder for heavenrevenge's torrent.

Long term, the best method would be for Chris or Brian to create the torrent and post it to their webpage. Otherwise we may get several of us posting torrents and that slows down the sharing

Also, people seem to be downloading BOTH versions, the Normal Quality and the High Quality OGG files, for next episode, should I just make the Torrent include JUST the Normal or the High Quality?? Let me know. Also...... if I must, if it will help people use torrents, I can always use a different tracker instead of Demonoid. But I'd need input, for all who download torrents, what tracker should I post it to, and what file(s) would you want??

Ditto grahams1, THEY should make a main torrent, then we can all start from the same source, and ALWAYS have the biggest pool to pull from. But regardless, if they don't happen to start one up, I'll be glad to start one up each time an episode is released.

I think the bittorrent solution is really only sensible for the largest files. Smaller files can be obtained from direct download. The reason for doing the bittorrent in the first place was because everyone was trying to download the high-quality OGG file at the same time and only getting 5Kbps. (And angrily pointing accusing fingers at each other in the #linuxactionshow chat room. Why are there so many haters!?)

Well then, so far, as I have seen, and have come to conclusion by logic, with assistance from Matt, is that next week, so far only the High Quality OGG file, shall be included in the torrent. Sorry there andersonmanly, so far I wont be including an mp3 in the torrent, BUT I could probably host it on Mediafire for you to download instead of converting the OGG on your com, unless you have a perfectly powerful box to do it yourself ;)

Therefore so far, next weeks podcast # 55 shall include ONLY the OGG-HQ(High Quality OGG) file, and not both together as this one currently has, since most people are downloading the whole ~50MB instead of just the file they desire.

's Cool...I'll just do what I did this week. I don't mind hosting either. Even if only one or two people download it from me, it distributes the load a little bit anyways.
  9.
Yea man, go ahead, if people DO require an mp3 for their mp3 player, then if the niche needs to be filled, by all means, making either a torrent of upload to a host I'm sure B&C will be glad to have assistance from their listeners :)

It should be easy to include both ogg and mp3 formats as ktorrent can make a torrent from either a file or an entire folder. I'm sure other tools can do this also.

BTW. I also usually listen on my old mp3 player, but download the ogg and covert it

I agree with including the different versions in one torrent as one folder, many users forget with torrents that they can select or deselect the files they want, and just say "ok" to all. I get rather pissed off at (but deselect without conscious thought now) the "downloaded from Demonoid.com" .txt file. Why would I want this identical file every time? I used to delete them, until the "deselect" solution popped into my head......cut it off before it starts.

    Hey all,

In response to the question about the Linux Installer within windows (I emailed this to Chris or Bryan a few weeks back so shame on you for not putting 2 and 2 together :p).

Its Wubi to install Ubuntu within Windows. I've never tried it (as I have Linux only boxen now), but I ran across it on some other forum and read their home page:

    http://wubi-installer.org/

    Peace.

Yea, but if anything, ill only make the torrent include the High Quality version, and just post the other versions like the normal quality and an mp3 version hosted on Mediafire, but I'd like the torrent as simplistic and minimal with what's MOST demanded, to give the server load some distribution to spread the server demand load.

Since everyone so far is downloading both in the torrent, and not just picking 1 to download, oh well, next week's, shall be smaller, and with only ONE(1) file;) the others ill host on Mediafire, as I'm not a huge fan to go from OGG to MP3 if I don't have to.

yeah id prefer high quality if you were only going to do one
